An upcoming event at Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Surrey campus just may be the TALK of the town.
Third Age Learning at Kwantlen will mark the silver anniversary of its "commitment to lifelong learning" with a celebration set for 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
TALK founder Joanne Cunningham – a retired KPU administrator and South Surrey resident – is keynote speaker for the occasion, described as a mix-and-mingle event.
TALK is aimed at the 50-plus age group, offering a variety of "short, informative, participatory" courses for retirees who want to continue learning, as well as "lively" Philosophers' Corners in Richmond, Surrey and Langley that are open to the public.
This fall, TALK courses lined up include a field trip to Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest; West Meets East: Japan's Influence on Western Culture; and, How Will Artificial Intelligence Change Society?
Only members may register for courses. According to information at kpu.ca, the annual membership fee is $10, and the cost of most courses is $15; kept low through a program that invites KPU professors and community professionals to volunteer their time.
Cunningham and three other South Surrey women – Lindagene Coyle, Sandra Carpenter and Eileen Fuller – comprise the anniversary event's organizing committee.
It is set to take place in the conference centre of the Surrey campus (12666 72 Ave.), located in the Cedar Building.
Those interested in attending are asked to register by Sept. 20, at kpu.ca/talk, by email to talk@kpu.ca or by phone, to 604-599-3077.
