Lady Washington, the official ship of Washington State, and companion ship Hawaiian Chieftain will return to Blaine next month for six days, including for Drayton Harbor Days, Aug. 6 to 7.
The ships are scheduled to arrive the afternoon of Aug. 2 at Blaine Harbor Marina, 235 Marine Dr., and will be open for public walk-on tours and sailing opportunities.
Evening sails include demonstrations of tall-ship handling and a chance to take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting.
Battle sails feature a recreation of a typical naval skirmish of the late 18th century, complete with booming cannon (firing blanks with real gunpowder).
Groups of eight or more for battle sails automatically receive a 15 per cent discount. Tickets are available online at www.historicalseaport.org or by calling 1-800-200-5239. (Early reservations are strongly recommended.)
They will be open for walk-on tours Aug. 3-5, noon to 5 p.m.; and Aug. 6-7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Crew in period costume will welcome visitors and answer questions.
A $3 donation per person is appreciated.
