The 34th South Surrey/White Rock Terry Fox Run is slated for Sept. 14, with organizers encouraging everyone from the Peninsula to participate.

The annual event will start and end adjacent to the Rotary Field House in the South Surrey Athletic Park, with registration at 8 a.m. and the run itself kicking off at 9 a.m.

Participants may run, walk, cycle, rollerblade or push a stroller on either six km or 1.6 km routes.

Local participation for the local Terry Fox Run in the past has been between 200-250 people, however in a news release, organizers noted they would hope to increase that.

There is no entry fee for Terry Fox Runs, however participants who register can make a donation at the run site. Alternatively, donations can be made via the Terry Fox Foundation website.

Last year, the local run raised $15,000 for cancer research. Since the run first began 34 years ago, more than $650 million has been raised.

Terry Fox runs will also be held at Bear Creek Park with an option for one-, five- or 10-km walk or run, and at Fraser Heights Recreation Centre, 10588 160 St., starting at 10 a.m. with an option of a two-, five- or 10-km walk/run. For more information, visit www.terryfox.org
