The Surrey International World Music Marathon, a cultural celebration and running competition for participants of all ages and athletic abilities, is looking for committed volunteers to help support this second-annual event. This year’s festivities, presented by Central City, will take place Sept. 29.

In addition to offering a full and half marathon, 5K walk/run, relay race, and kids’ fun run, the marathon will celebrate Surrey’s diverse background with its uniquely themed "cultural miles," featuring world music, dancing, and festivities to encourage runners along the way.

“The support we received from volunteers at last year’s inaugural event has made the Surrey International World Music Marathon one of the city’s most exciting sporting events, and we’re thrilled to be continuing with that momentum,” said Marathon Chair Elizabeth Model. “We’re looking forward to working with an enthusiastic group of volunteers for 2013 and are calling on participants of all ages and backgrounds to come out and take part in this dynamic community event.”

Volunteers are needed in areas of aid stations, course marshals, culture miles, expo, finish line concert, gear check, guest services, information booth, package pick-up, race package stuffing, registration, refreshment stations and more.

They will be needed for 6-8 hours.

Interested volunteers can find more information online at www.surreymarathon.com/volunteer. In exchange for their time, each volunteer will receive a complimentary t-shirt, certificate of appreciation, and complimentary breakfast.

Volunteer orientation will be held in early September.
