Officials with the First Church of Christ, Scientist, are inviting anyone interested to attend a free event Saturday (Oct. 5) in White Rock to "examine liberty from a biblical perspective."
Be Set Free is set for 2 p.m. at the Elks Hall (1469 George St.) and will feature speaker Nicole Virgil.
Described as a "very powerful" speaker, Virgil – an avid gardener and food systems activist who calls Chicago home – is a Christian Science practitioner and member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
Raised in Christian Science, she studied the faith with her mom and music with her dad, "and found that each discipline complemented the other," a bio at christianscience.bc.ca shares.
Virgil studied opera, then set out to educate audiences about the dramatic works by singing Mozart, Puccini and Menotti.
Saturday's talk, according to nicolevirgil.com, will examine "how to find the nature and substance of liberty, which is spiritual, purposeful, unburdened … how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical. emotional and circumstantial restrictions, that seem clearly beyond their control."
