Two White Rock residents will be recognized for their work raising awareness about Parkinson’s with a Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Henry and Laura Block will be presented with the medals March 23 at the Parkinson Society British Columbia annual general meeting.

The Blocks raised a record-setting amount of $175,000 during the Parkinson SuperWalk in 2012, which was held at Bear Creek Park in Surrey.

The amount, raised by the Hike for Hank team, was the largest single contribution for the SuperWalk in the society’s history.

Since Henry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 12 years ago, the Blocks and their friends have rallied around the cause, working to raise funds and awareness about the disease.

The AGM is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the society’s Vancouver office located at Broadway Church, 2700 East Broadway.
