White Rock resident to be honoured by governor general

Master Cpl. Jordan Irvine – along with Quebec Sgt. Brian Harding – will be recognized with a Meritorious Service Decoration

A White Rock resident will be among “150 remarkable Canadians” to be honoured by Canada’s Gov. Gen. David Johnston today (Friday).

Master Cpl. Jordan Irvine – along with Quebec Sgt. Brian Harding – will be recognized with a Meritorious Service Decoration in the military division of the awards.

Friday’s event will be held at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver.

Irvine and Harding are being honoured for their work with Send Up the Count – a mental-health initiative that encouraged military personnel to reach out to fellow military members, both serving and retired, who may be struggling with mental health issues.

The pair “were instrumental” in the project, a news release from the governor general’s office states, adding that within one week of the program, more than 9,000 members had been reached.
