The White Rock Business Improvement has a winner for its recent Street Banner Contest.
White Rock resident Jennifer Tiles' submissions got the green light from the BIA selection committee, who cited the originality, artistic merit and interactivity of her designs.
"I'm honoured to have this opportunity to give back to my community and hometown," Tiles said following the announcement of her win on July 31.
"My vision for the banners is a clean, consistent and contemporary look."
She added she has tried to select symbols that are representative of White Rock and each of its four distinct business areas.
Her design concept for East Beach, for example included a soaring eagle, and the carved bear and totems of the Grand Chief Bernard Charles Memorial Plaza.
"Their colour scheme and illustrative quality should reflect the vibrant and artistic community of the city," she said.
BIA president Jack Sixsmith said Tiles' designs "reflect and celebrate the culture of White Rock's unique districts and eclectic atmosphere."
Mayor Wayne Baldwin, in congratulating Tiles, said the city "supports the BIA's commitment to showcasing emerging artists in our community, while continuing to enrich White Rock and its unique districts."
