A workshop for people caring for loved ones who are living with Alzheimer's or other dementia is set for Dec. 7 at Church of the Holy Trinity in White Rock.

The free, two-hour event is a collaborative effort between the church and the Alzheimer Society of B.C., which will be leading the program.

Spearheaded by Kathy O'Connor, 'Recognizing your journey as a caregiver' is to take place from 10 a.m. till noon at the 15115 Roper Ave. church.

O'Connor said she was moved to bring the workshop to the community as she, too, has a loved one with dementia. The workshop will "give a chance for caregivers to be supported and continue to learn more about how their loved one can be impacted," she said.

"Many people in our community are affected in some way with dementia," she noted.

According to an Alzheimer Society of B.C. poster, the workshop will be an opportunity to "discuss the personal challenges, guilt and grief of being a caregiver."

"Learn how to recognize signs of burnout, the importance of self-care and how you can build resilience."

It's also a chance to connect with other caregivers, O'Connor said.

To register, call the First Link Dementia Helpline at 1-800-936-6033.
