A South Surrey girl who recently doffed her locks for Wigs for Kids B.C. donated $1,900 in pledges to the charity last month.

Dakota KeithDakota Keith made the presentation to chairperson Bev Friesen Oct. 20, during the charity’s annual live and silent auction, a fundraiser that helps Wigs for Kids provide custom-fitted, human-hair wigs to kids who have lost their own hair to cancer or other serious illness.

The money Dakota collected is enough to pay for one child’s wig – a goal the Jessie Lee Elementary student had been striving for.

But she’s not done yet.

Dakota plans to raise more money at her school’s Christmas craft fair, taking place Nov. 23 at 2064 154 St. Dakota plans to sell items she has made – such as Christmas cards and tags – as well as collect donations. All of the proceeds will benefit Wigs for Kids.

She’d like to see her total raised overall reach $2,000, her mom Nikki said by email.
