Women in history

Mothers of Invention, Stewart Hall’s newest exhibit, will give visitors a peek into the origins of inventions, objects and ideas of women in history when it opens this weekend.

From healers and homemakers to designers and engineers, the showcase is to highlight women from around the world, Canada and the Greater Vancouver area, with inventions covering a variety of areas, including art, clothing and textiles, medicine, engineering and science. The Kids’ Corner features ‘The Inventors Challenge,’ where kids can help solve a puzzle and construct a paper lantern.

Mothers of Invention opens March 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the hall on Stewart Farm, 13723 Crescent Rd. Refreshments will be served, admission is by donation. The exhibit is to run Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. until May 8.

Ingenious Inventing will be held for people 16 and older March 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in which participants can meet a local inventor, learn about bringing an idea to life and hear how to develop a patent. Guest speaker will be BC Inventors Society president Maya Sinclair. Cost is $10/ per person. 

Children have an opportunity to learn about ingenious inventions as well in Young Inventors, scheduled for May 7 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Cost is $8 for children five to 10 years old.
