Air cadets Alan Lee and Calvin Wong, both aged 17 and members of the 907 Black Knights Squadron, were among 44 air cadets selected from across B.C. to receive scholarships to pursue their Transport Canada glider pilot licence.

Lee and Wong flew Schweizer 2-33A gliders, with both describing the opportunity as one that enabled them to fulfill a dream.

The teens had to pass an entrance exam that covered all aspects of aviation, and sit before a review board. School marks, cadet service, leadership and physical fitness were also evaluated over the course of the intense six-week training period.

The pair received their wings on Aug. 15.
