Well-known young singer Kiel Magis will appear in concert this Sunday (May 25).

Praised for his vocal sound and an ability to connect with audiences, Magis will be joined by members of his graduating class from the UBC School of Music – along with South Surrey's Stella Maris Concert Choir, with whom he sings regularly, for a 90-minute program at Good Shepherd Church 2250 150 St. at 3 p.m.

Genres range from sacred and classical music works from art song composer Roger Quilter, a sacred piece by Dvorak arranged by local musician and composer Henri Lorieau, to folk and contemporary songs such as Londonderry Air, All I Ask of You (from Phantom of the Opera), and You Raise Me Up.

Piano accompaniment will be by Lorieau, and Vivian Jin.

A recent graduate of UBC, Magis gained his bachelor's degree in music, specializing in vocal performance, after studying for three years with Eric Hannan, former artistic director of the Vancouver Cantata Singers.

He continues to participate in the Stella Maris Concert Choir, but has also worked with international opera sensation Roelof Oostwoud and sung with the prestigious University Singers (UBC), the award winning Phoenix Chamber Choir, as well as the Corpus Christi College Chamber Choir, directed by Tony Araujo.

Tickets (available at the door) are $10, and $8 seniors, with proceeds benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.
