Royal Canadian International Circus is set for a spring return to Surrey with 19 shows over 10 days.

With seats for close to 2,700 spectators, the Alberta company’s colourful circus tent will be set up at Guildford Town Centre once again, this time from May 2 to 12, in the parking lot at 104 Avenue and 150 Street.

The touring circus promises “explosive live entertainment featuring spectacular acts” performed by generational circus families from around the world.

This year’s cast includes Swiss ringmaster/daredevil Joseph Dominik Bauer on the Wheel of Destiny, the Guerrero High Wire act, Motorcycle Globe of Death, Leo Garcia the Human Cannonball, Zeman roller skating duo, Chu Chuan-Ho diabolo acrobatics from Taiwan, Bollywood Aerialists, high-flying Pacusito Unicyclist, show-openers Canadian Tribute Troupe, comedy and more.

After the run of Guildford shows, the circus leaves town for 11 mid-May performances at Lansdowne Centre in Richmond.

Elsewhere, Vancouver’s Concord Pacific Place is where Cirque du Soleil will bring its “ECHO” show starting Oct. 9, offering a story “of connection, intention and the symbiotic unions between humans and the animal kingdom.” Tickets are now sold to Club Cirque members, and the general public can buy tickets starting March 4.

“Fueled by the power of change, the hope of the youth and the value of empathy, ‘ECHO’ follows an inquisitive young woman named Future as she wanders into a fantasy world that explores our sacred bond with animals and nature,” explains a Cirque event advisory. “When Future and her best friend the Dog encounter a mysterious Cube, they quickly learn how their actions have the power to shape this world, and if we come together, we can rebuild our planet to create the world we all want to live in.”

Cirque du Soleil’s 20th Big Top show “brings bold new visuals and a unique aesthetic on tour.” Details are posted on
