Peninsula-based mixed-media artists Jacquie Janzen and Veronica Newell are highlighting their complementary, colourful styles with a show this month at White Rock’s Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery (Central Plaza).
A Ribbon Runs Through It - A Mixed Media Journey Through Our Shared Landscape continues through Sept. 27 at the gallery (15140 North Bluff Rd.).
Janzen’s florals and abstracts are juxtaposed with Newell’s nature scenes, birds and animals in the show, pointing up the fact that both include decorative elements to heighten the impact of their pieces, often incorporating papers, textiles, stencil work and the depth of several layers in each composition.
An official opening reception will be held Friday (Sept. 15) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A statement released with the show notes that such experiments are a hallmark of both artists’ “flexible and abstracted approach.”
Ultimately, the artists “present an organic interpretation of nature, colour, texture and their emotional connection,” the statement continues.
“Visitors are invited to explore the layers and undercurrents in the works and to join the journey through the inner landscapes they’ve created.”
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
