It's a big year for the Surrey Children's Festival as the number of candles on its birthday cake hits double-digits.
The event, which began in 2005, will once again take over Bear Creek Park and the Surrey Arts Centre beginning Thursday (May 22) and continuing through Saturday.
Over the years, the festival has entertained kids with talent from around the world, both well-known and emerging, as well as performers from Surrey's own back yard.
This year is no different.
Highlights this year include Erth's Dinosaur Zoo, an interactive theatrical puppet show from Australia, Language of Rhythm, an ensemble of performers representing seven different countries, and Pete the Cat author Eric Litwin from Atlanta, Georgia.
Also featured are the Shamak Bollywood Jazz Dance Team, the Nylon Zoo, and Will Stroet & the Backyard Band.
While some performances are ticketed, others are free, as are many activities throughout the park. Kids will be able to watch music and dance performances on outdoor stages, listen to animated storytimes, make arts and crafts, participate in workshops and even join the festival parade.
The Surrey Children's Festival takes place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information and a complete schedule, check www.surrey.ca/childrensfestival
