Surrey singer wins grand prize at PNE

Alyssa Gutierrez croons her way to $5,000 in talent competition.

Alyssa Gutierrez of Surrey took first place prize at the 2014 PNE Star Showdown at the Chevrolet Performance Stage on Wednesday evening.

Gutierrez, 16, won the $5,000 grand prize for her vocal performance of “If I Ain’t Got You.”

The PNE Star Showdown is an annual talent competition that showcases the hottest and most talented performers from around province. Surrey’s Maddison Bell, who won in her age category, missed the final to perform at an event for Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Langley.

The annual Fair at the PNE runs daily, except Mondays, through Labour Day.
