Surrey gets into the spirit of the national Culture Days celebration starting Saturday, Sept. 21.
For three weeks, until Oct. 13, several free activities and gatherings are planned including a kickoff "Campfire Stories" event with poet Joseph Dandurand & Friends, Saturday at Clayton Community Centre, 1 p.m. start.
Also Saturday afternoon, Filipino Fest returns to Museum of Surrey and a Harvest Fair is happening at Historic Stewart Farm in South Surrey.
All of Surrey's Culture Days activities are posted on culturedays.ca, both in-person and virtual. The events are organized by Surrey Civic Theatres, Surrey Art Gallery, Historic Stewart Farm, Museum of Surrey, Surrey Archives and Surrey’s Special Events team.
Held annually at this time of year, Culture Days brings arts and culture events to venues across Canada.
Other events in Surrey include Hands-On Music Production with Chin Injeti (Oct. 4), Band-Aid Youth Musician Development Workshop (Oct. 5), White Rock & South Surrey Culture Crawl (Oct. 5-6) and more.
A special event Oct. 6 will see BC Culture Days ambassador Harmeet Kaur lead an "Everyone is a Composer" interactive workshop at Clayton Community Centre, 12:30 p.m. start.
Saturday's "Campfire Stories" event also kicks off the 2024-25 Presentation Series produced by Surrey Civic Theatres. Now until next spring, the series offers 25 shows that promise an entertaining mix of music, comedy and plays at Surrey Arts Centre, Centre Stage at city hall and Clayton Community Centre.
