Designs for new banners – like this 2009 design for Five Corners – are being sought.

Emerging and established White Rock artists of all ages have until early next month to submit designs for the White Rock Business Improvement Association street banner program.

Businesses and merchants in the city are funding replacements for the existing banners, which have become very weathered.

The BIA will choose four new designs in all – each one reflecting the character of one of White Rock’s business districts: Uptown, Five Corners, West Beach and East Beach.

In addition to having their artwork chosen to represent one district, chosen artists will also receive a complimentary meal at a White Rock restaurant and ‘White Rock Dollars’ coupons to use at partcipating businesses.

Aim of the works is to enhance the areas with pieces that “speak to the vibrancy of arts and culture in the community” while reflecting the “theme, feel and culture” of each district. Submissions will be reviewed by a committee and artists may be invited to meet with the committee to review proposals.

Submission deadline is July 13 at 5 p.m., and all entries must be received at the BIA office, 1550 Foster St.
