The date of Monday, Sept. 9 is set for the 40th annual Jake Milford Canucks Charity Invitational, played at Northview Golf & Country Club in Surrey.
The annual golf tournament involves Vancouver Canucks players, coaches, management and alumni in a season-kickoff fundraiser for Canucks for Kids Fund and Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation.
Last September, golfers paid $1,500 to rub shoulders with Canucks stars at the tourney, which sold-out weeks in advance.
This year, the fee for a single golfer has jumped to $2,500, according to info on the website where tickets are sold (can.givergy.com/jakemilfordcanucks). The fee is $7,500 for a team of three to play with a "celebrity" on Sept. 9.
"You've seen them on the ice. Now meet them on the green," says an email sent to Canucks fans on Thursday (Aug. 8).
The shotgun-style tournament salutes Jake Milford, the Canucks’ general manager in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1984.
Presented by KPMG, “The Jake” tourney marks the start of the Canucks hockey season and is followed by training camp for the team, Sept. 19-22 in Penticton at South Okanagan Events Centre. The team's first preseason game is Sept. 24 against Seattle Kraken.
