A deadly crash in Surrey caused another road closure in Surrey Sunday morning.
Surrey RCMP advised the public of a road closure Sunday (July 14) on 144 Street near 62 Avenue, so investigators could determine what happened in the collision, which occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m.
RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision in the 6200 block of 144 Street, but despite lifesaving efforts, one person was declared dead at the scene, a release said. The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating the crash.
The investigation is in the early stages and investigators are "working to identify all factors that led to this fatality," Sgt. Chris De Hart noted.
The fatal crash is the latest in a series of collisions that have caused the deaths of 18 people in just six days on the province's highways.
While 144 Street was closed both north- and south-bound between 63A Avenue and 61A Avenue, it had re-opened by 4:45 p.m.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-camera footage from the area is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
