A Coldest Night of the Year charity walk will be held in Cloverdale Feb. 22.
The nationwide event sees thousands of people take part in hundreds of communities across Canada. People gather in teams, or as individuals, raise pledges, and walk through their local towns.
The Cloverdale Community Kitchen (CCK) hosts Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) locally. The annual fundraiser is a family-friendly event that helps support the less fortunate, while at the same time raises awareness about homelessness.
A post on CCK’s Facebook page calls members of the community to sign up and help out.
“Join us for the Coldest Night of the Year and make a difference in our community,” the post says.“We’re coming together for a 2 or 5 KM walk through downtown Cloverdale.”
The post asks for Cloverdalians to get pledges to raise money in effort “to support the hungry” and homeless in the Cloverdale and wider-Surrey area.
“This is more than just a walk—it’s a chance to show compassion, raise awareness, and fundraise for those in need.”
Another post on their Facebook page calls Coldest Night a “winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk” that raises money to support the work of CCK.
“Let’s change the tune for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness because it’s cold out there.”
Organizers add that one hundred per cent of the funds raised stay in Cloverdale to help CCK serve those in need.
With six weeks to go, CCK has already raised 17 per cent of its fundraising total—garnering nearly $48,000 of its $280,000 goal. Last year, the Kitchen raised more than $232K during Coldest Night—the second most for any location in Canada. Donations from people in Cloverdale and the surrounding communities in 2024 fell short of 2023’s high water mark of $274,000 by $42K.
Canada-wide, all locations broke the overall goal of $13 million in 2024, raising $1.1 million more than in 2023, with all participants together raising just under $13.5 million.
More than 100 walkers on 39 teams have already signed up for Cloverdale’s incarnation of Coldest Night.
The in-person Cloverdale walk begins and ends at the Community Kitchen. Walkers will be able to register, turn in results of their fundraising efforts, and return at the end of the evening to celebrate their achievements.
Participants will walk a two kilometre or five kilometre route. There will also be rest stops along the way where participants can warm up with some hot drinks.
Last year organizers welcomed more than 580 walkers on 77 teams, including staff and friends of the Cloverdale Community Kitchen.
Participants who raise more than $150 ($75 for youth) will also be given one of the yearly special CNOY toques.
“Register today to walk and fundraise,” the post concludes. “Let’s stand together to make our community a warmer place for everyone.”
