A black bear was seen making its way through South Surrey on Sunday, with photos and reported sightings popping up on social media all day.
Kerrie McHugh was in the front yard of her townhouse on 27 Avenue, in the Grandview Heights area, when she spotted it crossing the street.
"It was a shocking sight! He or she was a healthy-looking black bear. The bear had walked through Oliver Park," she said.
"I ran to my back deck to warn the neighbourhood kids to get inside. Last I heard he was he heading down 160 (street) close to 26th (Avenue)."
Another social media post placed the bear in a backyard in Rosemary Heights.
While McHugh was surprised to see a bear in her complex, she emphasized that she doesn't want any harm to come to the bear.
Many on social media suggested it was the same bear spotted in Newton a few days ago.
Police confirmed they received several reports of the bear in the South Surrey area on Sunday.
"Conservation has been made aware of the calls of the bear in the area. Police have made patrols in the area to ensure public safety and have not located the bear," said Surrey RCMP Sgt. Brad Williams via email.
He said the best thing the public can do is leave the bear alone.
"It is the hope that people will stay clear of the bear and not feed or provide water to the bear, even if they believe it is hungry and thirsty."
