Two rounds of golf at South Surrey's Morgan Creek Golf Course are available to be won at a fundraiser for KidSport this Friday, Sept. 27.

Two Grade 11 students at Earl Marriott Secondary are making the most of a professional development day this Friday (Sept. 27).

Koen Friesen and Ibrahim Shaaban decided to host a fundraiser for KidSport British Columbia, a charity that helps local youth get involved in sports, as getting in the game ignites a sense of belonging, shapes character, fuels better health, builds confidence and unleashes potential.

But the cost of registration fees can be a barrier for many families, according to the website.

That's why Friesen and Shaaban decided to turn the upcoming pro-D day into a Jingle Jangles tournament that will also, serve as a fundraiser for KidSport BC.

"We are hosting this fundraiser because we support the charity and think it is very important that kids are able to play sports," Frisen said.

"KidSport makes it possible for all kids, even those who can’t afford to, enjoy sports."

A 'Jingle Jangle' tournament, akin to a "small-sided rugby game," is open to all boys and girls in Grade 8-12, and costs $30 to enter each team of three to four people. The $30 entry fee covers a hot dog, a drink and registration for each member of the team.

A draw will also happen at the fundraiser, with the grand prize being two rounds of golf at South Surrey's championship-length Morgan Creek Golf Course.

"People should come and support because it’ll be a fun event where you get food, play games, socialize with friends, and even win interesting rugby-related prize," Friesen said.

The event happens from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 on the EMS lower field.
