Cloverdale’s “Spooktacular Halloween Market” returns next month and organizers expect to see ghosts and goblins and every Halloween costume one can think of.

The seventh annual Halloween market will be held Oct. 26 in both the Alice McKay building and Shannon Hall on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.

Organizer Kelly Ewing doubled the space last year because of the event’s popularity and she's doing that again this year.

“This energetic market is the biggest local Halloween Market around,” Ewing said. “(We) pack in loads of family fun and love being part of creating lasting Halloween memories.”

This year Ewing has more than 100 vendors booked, along with balloon twisters, face painters, and a Halloween bouncy house.

“From ghoulish wares to ooey-gooey treats, they have you covered.”

Ewing has expanded to include six food trucks at the market.

“Costumes are encouraged by all,” she added. “And there are several photo display opportunities.”

Admission to the market is by donation with all monies collected going to the Surrey Hospital Foundation. Ewing said there’ll be donation boxes set up at both entrances.

Last year the event raised $5,800 for charity and this year she hopes to raise more.

Ewing explained that the market is also done as a charity event for the community, as the market is family-focussed with lots of activities for kids and all are free.

There will also be costumed characters walking around for people to snap pictures with.

Ewing encouraged everyone to come in costume as there will also be a photo zone with a Halloween backdrop where market-goers can snap some pics.

The Spooktacular Halloween Market will also feature a raffle prize draw with proceeds also going to the Surrey Hospital Foundation.

Ewing is a registered nurse and works at Surrey Memorial Hospital. She was inspired to start the Spooktacular Halloween Market because she “loves Halloween and wanted to give back” to the community.

Raising money for the Surrey Hospitals Foundation assists the foundation in purchasing much needed equipment.

The seventh annual Spooktacular Halloween Market will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Alice McKay and Shannon Hall on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, 6050 176th Street.
