Surrey companies among big winners of HAVAN homebuilder awards

HAVAN Awards hosted by Newton-headquartered association led by new CEO Wendy McNeil

Surrey-based companies earned several awards during an annual event that honours the best in residential construction, renovation and design in Metro Vancouver.

Close to 550 people attended the 2025 Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) Awards for Housing Excellence at the Westin Bayshore, where dozens of trophies were presented Saturday, April 12.

This year's big winners include Surrey-based Miracon Development Ltd. with seven awards including two Grand Havans, for Best Single-Family Home Builder and Best Residential Community: Single-Family (for Mirada Estates in Langley).

Also based in Surrey, My House Design/Build Team and Emphasis Architecture +Design Studio together received four awards, with Emphasis also winning the Grand Havan for Interior Designer of the Year.

North Vancouver-based Twin Lions Contracting picked up seven awards including Grand Havans for Best Residential Renovator of the Year and Best Custom Home Builder of the Year.

Langley's Vesta Properties earned six wins including Grand Havans for Best Residential Community: Multi-Family and Best Multi-Family Home Builder of the Year.

Presented by FortisBC, the HAVAN Awards aim to highlight "the exceptional accomplishments and innovative solutions of Metro Vancouver’s homebuilding sector," showcasing "a diverse range of projects, from stunning custom-built homes, whole-home renovations, and breath-taking kitchens to community-enriching multi-family developments, single-family homes, laneways, and multiplex housing solutions."

This year, a record-breaking 181 builders, renovators and designers submitted 451 entries across the 65 categories of HAVAN Awards, with all the winners listed on HAVAN.ca/awards.

“Metro Vancouver is home to some of the most talented and visionary housing professionals in the country,” said Wendy McNeil, HAVAN's new CEO.

“In the face of rising complexity — from shifting regulations to economic pressures — our members continue to deliver high-quality homes that meet the evolving needs of homeowners. The HAVAN Awards not only celebrate this dedication to excellence, they also serve as a powerful platform for members to connect with homeowners seeking trusted, award-winning professionals to bring their projects to life.”

Surrey-based HAVAN is headquartered at 7445 132 St., in Newton.

McNeil, who served as the association's Acting CEO for 10 months, was announced as CEO in March.

With HAVAN for more than 23 years, McNeil has helped shape the association’s "core pillars" of marketing, education and member engagement. As acting CEO, she led advocacy efforts on "critical" industry issues, "ensuring HAVAN’s voice is heard on matters such as Development Cost Charges (DCCs), energy efficiency and housing delivery," a news release noted.

Born and raised on the West Coast, McNeil grew up in Richmond and now lives in Surrey with her husband and two sons.
