Surrey Knights will be home Thursday (Sept. 12) looking to rebound from a rather large season-opening loss over the weekend.

The Knights were blanked 10-0 by Richmond Sockeyes at Minoru Arena on Sunday evening (Sept. 8) in their first game of the Pacific Junior Hockey League's 2024-25 season.

Max Shin scored three for Richmond and goaltender Mathias Hasselmann recorded a 25-save shutout. At the other end of the rink, the Knights' DJ Cash stopped 45 of 55 shots he faced.

Surrey's home-opener is Thursday at 7 p.m. when the team hosts Abbotsford Pilots at North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex.

Sunday night in Richmond, the Knights roster included forwards Noah Iacutone, Sean Robins, Alistair Lau, Devyn Hayre, Bronson Sales, Neland Voshell, Wendell Adriano, Lucas Randall, Gavin Bhangu and Kirit Sran, along with defenders Jaden Kwan, Kris Ramos, Jovan Athwal, John Lopez, Robert Orr, Chayton Basanti and Sahilpreet Deol. In net, Koen St. Hilaire backed up Cash and faced a single shot in the final half of the third period.

Last season, the Knights made the PJHL playoffs for a second straight year with a win over Mission City Outlaws in their final game of the season. The crucial 6-4 win was earned at Surrey Sport & Leisure rink in Fleetwood, in a game rescheduled due to a snow storm weeks earlier. The Knights then lost a Survivor Series match-up with Mission.

Last season, Ridge Meadows finished first in the Harold Brittain Conference, which includes Surrey, while the league-leading Richmond Sockeyes were tops in the Tom Shaw Conference. Surrey finished the regular season with 15 wins in 48 games, good for fifth place.
