Volunteers with the White Rock Muslim Association, together with Islamic Relief Canada, have been busy thinking of others on the Semiahmoo Peninsula.
They prepared more than 50 backpacks containing daily use items including toiletries, towels, skincare, water bottles, socks, gloves, hats and more, and delivered them to the White Rock daytime warming shelter, used by unhoused individuals in the area.
This year, Kathy Booth of Peninsula Interfaith Group also helped, a release noted.
Operator of the warming centre, Upkar Singh Tatlay from Engaged Communities Society, showed support to the organizations and thanked them for their years.
"The Islamic Relief Foundation has been supportive og our food security efforts and Mobile Health Unit whether in areas dealing with disasters like floods and fires in the interior of our daytime shelter operations on the Peninsula," Tatlay said.
"Last year in 2023 they arrived with a bundle of donations for guests of the shelter including important hygiene supplies and food. Their contributions have been a big boost to the wellbeing of so many people who are dealing with unimaginable challenges."
White Rock's daytime warming shelter is located at Centennial Park, located at 14600 North Bluff Rd. and is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
