White Rock's daytime warming centre will be open once again to vulnerable residents, and the city is looking for volunteer 'ambassadors' to help.

Think you've got what it takes to be an ambassador?

Then the City of White Rock wants you.

The seaside city is calling on community members to volunteer as warming centre park ambassadors this winter.

Volunteers in this program will work in pairs to help keep the area near the daytime warming centre in Centennial Park clean, identify potential safety hazards, and help to notify the proper authorities if someone needs assistance, a city release said.

Volunteer ambassadors are expected to commit to one, two-hour shift per week, and will not patrol after dark.

Shifts are available in the morning and afternoon.

Volunteers will undergo training before the warming centre opens for the season — expected later this month — learning the patrol areas, reporting procedures, and other essential duties. Safety vests, lanyards, and ID cards will be provided to all ambassadors, ensuring they are easily identifiable while on duty.

To apply, ambassadors must:

• Be 19 years or older
• Have a compassionate and empathetic approach toward individuals experiencing hardship
• Be reliable, punctual, and able to work well in a team setting
• Have the ability to walk up to two kilometres

To apply:

• Complete the city’s online application form
• Indicate “Warming Centre” as your area of interest
• Following application, the warming centre volunteer co-ordinator will reach out to schedule a training date and assign shifts
