White Rock South Surrey Minor Football Association hosts Titans Day

Home field event kicks off second week of fall flag football season in South Surrey

It was a beautiful Sunday for Titans Day in South Surrey.

Two weeks into the fall flag football season, the White Rock South Surrey Minor Football Association hosted their home opener with Titans Day at South Surrey Athletic Park, where players aged eight to 18 had a chance to play on their home turf.

"All of our kids from U8 to U19 are playing – we have every team here, we started at 8 a.m. this morning with our U8s and we finish at 7:15 p.m. tonight with our Midget (ages 16-18)," said WRSSMFA president Drew Kightley, taking a brief break from behind the barbecue, where he was busy grilling up delicious fare for hungry players and families.

Flag football has been popular this year, Kightley noted.

"Registration has been great this year! We've had a really big surge at both the peewee level and in JB (Junioor Bantam)... in JB we filled a full 12-man team," he said at the park.

"We filled registration early – we had a bit of a wait list going on – and we've already got a wait list of people standing by, waiting to sign up for spring flag," Kightley added, and encouraged the community to come check out a game any time.

"We're an affordable, fast-growing sport and it's free to come watch! Bring your kids out see what it's all about... maybe someone might want to come and join us."
