What does it mean to be Canadian? These letter writers have some ideas.

Editor,

During this weird time in our country, here are a few things to keep in mind.

As Canadians …

We want peace, not war!  We are peacekeepers, strong alliance members, and we welcome refugees.

We know winter is good!  It is good for skating, for building snowmen and snowwomen, for skidooing and for making snow angels.

We like good order and respect for the law.  We respect our police forces and judges, and expect justice from them.

We pay our taxes for medical care, good roads, clean cities and support for those who need it.

We enjoy having colourful currency that celebrates our history, and we don’t have the penny.  We aren’t that cheap!

We think it is not helpful for every person to carry a gun.  e’d rather carry your groceries!

We are part of a cultural mosaic, a colourful country made up of all races, religions and restaurants.

We say "please" and "thank you" and "you're welcome," and we really mean it!

We respect our neighbours and expect respect in return.

Because we are Canadians.
