LETTER: Crescent Beach roundabout is a 'needless' waste of money

City of Surrey is trying to fix an intersection that isn't broken, this resident says

Construction work has begun on the Crescent Beach roundabout (seen here on Tuesday, March 18).

Editor,

Have any of you ever had a loved relative who took your hard-earned money and spent it on needless items?

That is the situation we are faced with here, where the City of Surrey has decided we needed a roundabout at the corner of 128th Street and Crescent Road. Having lived in this area since 1973, I have travelled that road for over 25 years daily and weekly for the last few and never once have I had a problem with it.

I am told it will cost us $2 million. Chump change to them.

We have roads you do not want to drive over if your internal system is upset or you are not feeling well, like 20th Avenue just off 128th Street, but do they do anything about that? Nah.

Let us instead spend their money on roundabouts that transport trucks have trouble negotiating, and many of the folks using it are newcomers to our community and only been here for 25 years and still learning to drive, so a roundabout is an excellent challenge to them.

The City has forgotten the old adage, "Never try to fix what is not broken." Poor decision-making.
