LETTER: Kudos to White Rock councillors for housing pushback

Bill 44 may not work for communities like White Rock

There's value in maintaining the history and character of White Rock as a seaside community, this writer says.

Editor,

I am a White Rock resident and homeowner on the hillside above the pier.

As a lawyer I understand that municipal powers are delegated from the province.

With this in mind I wish to commend city councillors Klassen and Trevelyan for their pushback on the provincially imposed housing targets. The housing targets seem utterly unreasonable and irresponsible for a city having the size and characteristics of White Rock.

Surely there is some value in maintaining the history and character of White Rock as a quaint seaside community. Hopefully the political tides will swing and our provincial politicians will be held accountable for Bill 44, which undermines the democratic process by allowing provincial politicians to hide behind municipal leaders.
