Pierre Poilievre is seen during a visit to Surrey in May 2024. This letter writer says the Conservative Party of Canada leader 'seems to care nothing' about the consequences of resource projects.

Editor,

Pierre Poilievre, in his interview with Jordan Peterson, said that he would boost the economy by removing most regulations from new resource projects.
Most regulations serve a purpose.

They protect the health of people close to, or downstream of, or downwind of a project. They ensure the safety of workers. They ensure that workers are drawn from the Canadian labour force. They limit the environmental damage of a project. They sometimes limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Poilievre seems to care nothing about the consequences. He cares only about a quick and easy way to produce wealth. He reminds me of stories about people who make a deal with the devil. We deserve better from our leaders!
