Editor,
Is there any tangible evidence that Donald Trump even occupied a seat during the Economics 101 class offered at his local high school?
Surely, the teacher must have delved into both the pros and cons of the imposition of tariffs. Admittedly, I did not sit in on that class presentation, but I do want to raise quite a valid question.
So, an import from Canada has a tariff of 25% added to it. Or, if you prefer, its price in the U.S.A. is now 25% higher than its original price. Now, the American producer or manufacturer of the same product realizes that he/she can raise the price of his/her product in order to have a higher profit margin. Would he/she
do that? Of course, he/she would!
Now, that leaves the American purchaser of the product paying a higher price for both the Canadian and American product. So, this is what the President of the U.S.A. really wants for the hard-working citizens of his country!
