LETTER: Save precious ALR land in South Surrey

Golf club's loss is one thing, but agricultural land is another

Editor,

As our community is growing, I accept that we need to build more houses in South Surrey. Hopefully affordable for the younger families.

As a golfer, I didn’t even mind that The Hills at Portal Golf Club was being offered as part of the future site.  However, I am very disturbed to hear that a portion of this land is actually in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

I sincerely hope that the Agricultural Land Commission will NOT approve this request. The ALR is precious and should be used as farmland, to feed this and future generations.

The gift of a park may be acceptable, but please let us not open the door to building on our agricultural land reserve. Warehouses and parking lots could be next.
