Editor,
Here we are again and it is the same every year. We get some snow and the city is busy salting and sanding the streets. Snow plows are out plowing the streets, and smaller companies are busy clearing parking lots so people have access to the stores and parking. but that's it, so anyone who uses our parks is out of luck.
Many people, at least in South Surrey, love to get away on a non-rainy day into our parks where they can get some fresh air and exercise. It's not even very easy getting there because some sidewalks don't get cleared anyway besides the plowing the pathways in the parks.
Southmere Park, in particular, is used by a lot of senior citizens including those with walkers and mobile scooters. It's impossible and dangerous for them, so why does this happen every year?
We are asked to clear the sidewalks in front of our yards or possibly getting a fine even though many seniors who live in those places are unable to do it. We are told then to hire someone to do it without really knowing where and who to call.
Once most of our streets are fine to drive on, why are they not working in our parks? Maybe we should fine the city workers. I hope this letter inspires the city go get that happening and gets other folks stuck in that situation to complain.
