Spring has sprung, and it’s time to get into the garden and get dirty.

Growing Green is a hands-on project helping people of all abilities and backgrounds to learn gardening and landscaping skills – all under the direction of two master gardeners.

It’s an excellent opportunity for new Canadians to learn about gardening on the West Coast while developing their English language skills, and for neighbours to meet while working together in the garden.

In the past three years, our volunteers have rehabilitated a native plant garden, created a kitchen herb and vegetable garden, learned about composting, constructed new garden beds and planters and beautified the grounds for the enjoyment of the many people who visit and use our facilities.

Join your neighbours to celebrate community at our scrumptious three-course lunches the first Wednesday of each month September through May.

We had a full house for last month’s British Invasion and had to turn many people away; as once the shopping is done, registration has to be closed.

Please remember to register by the preceding Thursday so you don’t miss out.

The next lunch is a Cinco de Mayo Mexican Festival at noon May 1. The menu will include chicken quesadilla with salsa and sour cream, green salad, spiced fudge brownies, tea and coffee.

Is your mouth watering yet? Yes? Then register now at 604-535-0015 or online at www.alexhouse.net

Plan to spend the day at the camp celebrating the many cultures that call this wonderful community home.

On Saturday, May 25, 11 a.m. till 5 p.m., we’ll be celebrating our 39th-annual Alexandra Festival.

As always, we’ll have a great selection of artists, artisans and crafters displaying and selling their wares, a Family Fun Zone with lots of activities and entertainment for the pint-sized set, as well as first-class music on the outdoor stage.

We have some great performers lined up, and lots more still to be confirmed.

We’re also inviting artisans working from traditional art forms to participate. Call us for more info. There’s something for everyone.

Beecher Place is perfect for your program, seminar or special event.

Amenities include a panoramic view, a wrap-around balcony, an elevator, a kitchen and a pull-down projector screen.

Beecher Place is located on the beachfront in Crescent Beach. Call 604-535-0015 ext. 231 or go to www.alexhouse.net
