ALEX HOUSE: Growing support at garden

Alexandra Community Garden has begun third season with 36 gardeners

Alexandra Community Garden has begun its third season, and this year 36 gardeners are tending 30 plots.

We also have a garden for children enrolled in our day programs, and a food-bank garden which all the gardeners tend to supply Sources’ food bank. A community garden is more than just a place for people to come, grow their own produce, mind their own business and go home.

A community garden is a place where gardeners come together to teach and learn from one another while supporting their community.

While the garden is fully subscribed this year, we welcome anyone interested in participating next year to sign up on our wait-list by calling 604-535-0015.

Continuing our 100-year tradition of providing residential camps in Crescent Beach, this month we welcomed our supported adults, who looked forward to the change in their daily routines and surroundings.

Camp gives them the opportunity to experience the beauty of our natural beach environment while building lifelong friendships.

We’re looking forward to our fourth year of beachside Play Away Day Camps for both local kids and summer visitors.

Join us for words at play, ooey-gooey art, create! innovate!, eco kids, and more.

The weekly themes will inspire every adventurer – all in a traditional camp setting at the beach.

Camps run July 2 through the week of Aug 18, and before and after care is available if required.

Go to www.alexhouse.net for more information.

Our Neighbourhood Fun Nights are returning, beginning Wednesday, July 9, at 4:30 p.m. and running weekly until the end of August.

Activities and events for kids, adults and families in Crescent Beach are a great way to meet your neighbours.

Suggested donation of $2 per family, no registration required. Just come and have fun.

BBQs, garden parties, scavenger nights, beach parties and other fun things are in the works. Meet at the camp for all activities.
