Alexandra Fest this month

Hooray! Summer is just around the corner.

On Saturday, May 28, get a head-start on summer at the 37th annual Alexandra Festival.

The grounds will be filled with the sounds of music, laughter and the buzz of hundreds of people perusing the unique crafts, enjoying first-class entertainment on the outdoor stage and celebrating this diverse community we call home.

Parking woes? Leave your car up the hill and ride our handy shuttle from the Crescent Beach Legion.

The Family Fun Zone at Sullivan Field will run 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. with lots of games and activities, a drum circle, storytelling and, of course, the bouncy castle.

The youth lounge will be a great place to hang out from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Rock Band, foosball, music, snacks and drinks. Kick back, hang out and have some fun.

Buy your tickets and take your chances on some great raffle prizes. Win a hand-made quilt, a 32-inch Samsung LCD TV, a family-night gift basket, a family beach-day gift basket or a Beecher Place eight-hour rental.

Revenue from raffle-ticket sales will go towards Alex House children’s programs.

Stage entertainment will include Dae-Gum Sanjo, Payton Rector, Soul of the World Multicultural Choir, Brigadoon Scottish dancers, David Boxcar Gates, Ocarina, Yasmina belly dancers, Much “Mo”, Sahaja World Music and the “Star Captains.”

Festivities run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And as the sun goes down, the Coffee House 30-year anniversary festival celebration starts up.

Crescent Moon Coffee House is a collective of musicians and music lovers that has been building community through music since its inception more than 30 years ago.

Join the celebration in Alexandra Hall, after the festival, and make a full day and evening of it. Admission is $5.

If you want to play music or would like more info, please call Harriet at 538-8144.

Doors open at 7 p.m.

Round up your family, friends and neighbours and spend an enjoyable day by the beach at the Alexandra Festival, where there’s something for everyone!
