Health fair aims to help

On Feb. 9, South Surrey Recreation Centre will host a mini Health Fair at the Rec Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fraser Valley Home Health, along with Shoppers Home Health Care and other local health businesses, have partnered with us to provide four hours of education on many health topics, including blood-pressure testing and heart-disease information, diabetes education, elder-abuse issues, spirometry readings and lung-health information.

Medical Alert wallet cards will be filled out by a team of nurses to provide updated health records to individuals for emergency situations; they will also answer questions about your health.

Please drop by, or if you are in the facility attending classes, make sure you stop by and check out the fair.

n Our Enjoy Bus trip tours have been very successful with our next tour leaving on Wednesday, Feb. 16 for Tacoma, Wash. to visit the new Museum of Glass featuring world class exhibitions.

Enjoy a lunch on the water and dinner at Bob’s Burgers and Brew.

The tour includes more than 2,000 of Dale Chihuly’s glass works plus a stop at Union Station where many of his works are on display.

Don’t forget your passports and other important documents for this amazing day trip.

n Friday, Feb. 18 is our next Foot Care Clinic date, starting at 9 a.m. with two nurses.

If it is time for your follow-up appointment or if you need to have a first assessment done, contact our staff at 604-592-6970 to arrange your appointment.

n The Coffee and Connect tour will take off on Thursday, Feb. 24 and is designed for local seniors who are not able to get out as often as they would like to see the local facilities and resources available to them.

The tour includes a light lunch and the fee is by donation.

For more information and to reserve a spot, contact Sources at 604-542-4357 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

n Stay healthy and informed by connecting with your local community centre either online at or in person, and be a part of a healthy community. Drop in and observe the activities happening every day, then start trying one program at a time to get your perfect fitness activity.

See you at the centre!
