SENIORS' SCENE: Book, bake sale returns

Fundraiser set for Kent Street Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Kent Street Activity Centre invites all Cribbage & Bid Whist players every Thursday from 1-3:15 p.m. in the auditorium. Newcomers are welcome to a three-visit guest pass before purchasing a White Rock Recreation and Culture membership. Feeling lucky? Bring a partner and play in the cribbage tournaments the fourth Friday of each month from 12:45-3:30p.m. at the centre and win prizes. Call 604-541-2231 for more information.

Mark your calendars! The Kent Street Senior Society will be hosting a Book and Bake Sale fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 6  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kent Street Auditorium. If you have any gently used books you would like to donate, please drop them off at the Kent Street Centre before Jan. 29. All proceeds from the sale go to support the Kent Street Activity Centre’s projects and programs for seniors in the community.

A juried wild art exhibition will be held at the White Rock Community Centre from Jan. 14-Feb. 26. Opening reception is on Thursday, Jan. 14, 7-9 p.m. Come visit this free exhibit displaying some beautiful pieces by local artists.

Chair Yoga is designed for older adults who have mobility or other physical challenges. Discover the joy of yoga in a safe and gentle way beginning Wednesday, Jan. 20, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Centre for Active Living. Call 604-541-2199 to register.

White Rock Recreation and Culture offers a fabulous selection of yoga programs for all interests and ability levels. Check out Yoga for Seniors, Men Only, Restorative and Hatha. Join Lorraine Ellenwood, community historian, for a unique and interesting presentation on Notable Women of Early White Rock, on Thursday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m. to noon at the Kent Street Activity Centre. Call 604-541-2199 to register.

The first Encore Peninsula Concert of the New Year will be held on Sunday, Jan. 31, 3 p.m. at the First United Church in White Rock. Yinzi Kong, viola (China) & William Ransom, piano (USA) will be performing. This amazing duo merge into a perfect ensemble while performing the music of Bruch, Franck and De Beriot. Come down to Kent Street Activity Centre tonight (Jan. 13) for the Wednesday night dance in the auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. and Good Vibrations will be on stage from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Everyone 50+ is welcome.
