SENIORS SCENE: Plan for a summer full of activity

Registration is available now with membership and starts tomorrow for non-members. Register online at webreg.whiterockcity.ca, by phone (604-541-2199) or at Kent Street Activity Centre, White Rock Community Centre, or Centennial Park Leisure Centre. There is everything from arts to Zumba for adults and those 55+.

Your visiting grandchildren from near and far will also enjoy active summer camps and creative endeavours. Plan ahead – don’t be disappointed!

• Are you new to the area, new to retirement, or new to the Kent Street Centre?

If so, join us for a New Member’s Social on Tuesday May 28 at 10 a.m.

Learn about KSAC’s 40-year history and what it has to offer for those who are 55 or better.

• Have a laptop computer but aren’t sure how to use it?

Sign up for our Introduction to Computers Laptop class and learn the fundamentals about your computer. You will be shown how to create documents and folders and save, open and format them.

Course starts May 22 at White Rock Community Centre. Call 604-541-2199 to register.

• If you enjoy cooking, how about heading into the newly expanded Kent Street kitchen and having some Fun with Phyllo?

Learn to make simple puff pastries on May 25. Celebrate the warm sunny days with cool easy recipes, register for the June 8 Summer Soups and Salads course for some light and simple meal ideas.

• If you like games that have a twist here and there, you’ll like MahJong.

This game uses tiles instead of cards and involves a skill, strategy as well as a certain degree of chance.

It is a very social game; meet new people and drop in Mondays 1-3, Wednesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Kent Street. Membership is required; call 604-541-2231.

• Joy Brown will be leading a day trip to Sidney on June 13.

Tour the unspoiled charm of the Saanich Peninsula, visit B.C.’s oldest church and stop at a local nature reserve/beach.

The town of Sidney, on Vancouver Island, boasts waterfront views, lovely shops and is home to the largest outdoor market in B.C.

• Cheek to Cheek will be playing at the Kent Street Wednesday night dance this week 7:30-10:30 p.m. Tickets at the door at 7 p.m. Refreshments served midway, singles and couples 50+ welcome.
