SENIORS SCENE: Plenty of fall excursions for September

Explore the province with Kent Street Activity Centre's array of day trips.

There is a vast array of excursions to sign up for this fall.

Listen to a concert of opera selections while enjoying the beauty of UBC’s Botanical Garden on our Opera Tea in the Garden excursion scheduled for Sept. 16.

Spoil your senses. Did you know that there are 46 food carts in Vancouver? Celebrate the diversity of the city and explore the tasty fare with Pat Faulkner on the Experience Food Cart Vancouver day trip schedule Sept. 17.

Enjoy some downtown shopping between your taste-testing. Trip includes a guided tour and food samples from four trucks.

Our ever-popular Fresh and Lively Luncheons resume Friday, Sept. 14, 12:30–2:30 p.m.

No matter what your age, it is always good to learn ways to empower yourself with safety knowledge and feel confident throughout your daily routines.

The White Rock Community Centre is offering a Personal Safety workshop on Sept. 19 and Oct. 22 at no charge. Conducted by White Rock Community Policing, this session will focus on reducing the chances of becoming a victim at home, on the street, when travelling and in a vehicle.

You will also learn some easy self-defence moves; no previous experience required.

Line dancing is easy and fun.

Learn routines choreographed to popular country, Latin and Celtic music.

Our Wednesday night dances and monthly Dinner Dances are back in full swing starting Sept. 12.

Be sure to utilize a great new service that we are offering at Kent Street.

We will be having a Senior Connector visit Kent Street the first Wednesday of every month, starting Sept. 5 at 9:30 a.m. to bring information about housing options, medical support, government assistance and abuse awareness for seniors, their families and caregivers.

They will also be available to help with application forms for OAS, GIS and SAFER. No appointment necessary.

The White Rock Business Improvement Association is hosting an Uptown Street Festival Art Walk starting Sept. 8 displaying art in local businesses.

The White Rock Community Centre is displaying works of art as part of Outside the Box –an exploration in fibre – so be sure to take a tour and enjoy the beautiful work.
