The number of Vancouver's medical marijuana dispensaries has reportedly jumped "from three or four" to 61 since April, 2014.

"They've just started to sprout up all over the city," said city councillor Kerry Jang, in the video above. "Vancouver has always had a far more tolerant attitude towards cannabis and its use, either recreationally or medicinally.

"I think Vancouverites have generally always used cannabis quite responsibly," he continued.

Laws enacted on April 1 of last year banned medical marijuana users from growing their own pot, leading to a transition to licensed vending and buying.

According to estimates, Vancouver now has over half the entire country's 115 pot dispensaries.

"They are a low priority for us," said Vancouver Police Const. Brian Montague, on the dispensaries. "We focus our resources of violent drug traffickers and those committing violent offences related to drugs... Public safety is, sort of, the big picture we want to look at.

"We keep an eye on them. They are inherently illegal. We do respond to complaints that we get."
