Surrey Police Service Chief Constable Norm Lipinski welcomes 45 more officers to the force.

Forty-five more police officers have joined the Surrey Police Service, making for 487 all told as well as 458 support staff for a total of 945 employees.

Among the 45 are 13 recruits and 32 experienced officers hailing from police agencies throughout Canada. Four new civilian staffers have also joined the fold.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said in a press release Jan. 8 that the recruits will begin training at the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC) next week while the experienced officers do six weeks of training "to update their provincial policing qualifications and to be familiarized with SPS practices, procedures, and policies."

During the past four months, he noted, more than 120 police officers have joined the SPS.

Lipinski said the officers have joined up "at an exciting time in our history with the increased responsibility of being the police of jurisdiction for the diverse and growing City of Surrey. This large group is demonstrative of the continued interest from police officers with various levels of service, to join SPS.”
