Anita Huberman has her eye on a Tory prize for Surrey Centre.

The former long-serving CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade is seeking the Conservative nomination in that riding, where Liberal MP Randeep Sarai is seeking a fourth term in office.

"I'm going to be announcing something next week and that could be it," she told the Now-Leader – in a slightly enigmatic way – on Feb. 18.

Huberman conceded the cat's out of the bag "a little bit, yes." She's expected to make her intention official at a presser on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 10767 King George Blvd. "I'm running for the candidacy, there are others that are running and I feel I'm the best candidate and the purpose of the press conference is really to say that."

Why the Tories?

"I decided to move forward to focus on the economy and I think I can make a difference and the announcement is related to that from a political perspective,"

Why Surrey Centre?

"I've lived in Surrey Centre since I was 11 years old and you know it's time that everyone in Canada knew how amazing Surrey Centre is and has the potential to be. I believe in all of the work that I've done in Ottawa in my past career, that people don't understand the amazing contributions, the amazing possibilities of our city in general but of downtown Surrey itself."

Sukh Dhaliwal, Liberal MP for Surrey-Newton, is seeking a sixth term in that riding, contested by Conservative candidate Harjit Singh Gill. Ken Hardie, who has been the Liberal MP for Fleetwood-Port Kells since 2015, isn't running in the next election and the party has yet to chose a replacement.

Meantime, the Conservatives haven't responded to requests for information on who they might be running in Fleetwood-Port Kells. Nor has the NPD for that riding, as well as Surrey-Newton and Surrey Centre.
