Delta residents are invited to weigh-in on the design of the new Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre.
The City of Delta launched the first phase of public engagement on the new aquatic and recreation facility at Winskill Park in Tsawwassen on May 8, following council’s approval of the project on March 11 and staff’s subsequent selection of Unitech as the construction management firm and Dialog/Carscadden as the project architect.
Delta residents can provide input into the design of the new facility via the city’s online Let’s Talk Delta platform until June 16 and at four in-person events starting at the end of this month.
“It is a rare opportunity to build a new facility from the ground up and we encourage the community to get involved and help shape this newest amenity,” Mayor George Harvie said in a press release.
“I’m thrilled by the enthusiasm of many Tsawwassen and surrounding area residents who have been long-time patrons of the existing Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre. Our goal is to ensure that this new facility meets the needs of our community today and for decades to come.”

Residents are invited to share their ideas on a range of topics including the number of lanes, the features and attractions included in the leisure pool, accessibility and sustainability considerations, and — perhaps most significantly — where in Winskill Park to build the new centre.
“The city is exploring a different location for the building at Winskill Park so the current facility can remain open to patrons during construction,” Jim Bauer, the city’s director of major capital projects, said in a press release.
“There are three options being considered and each has different impacts to user groups, parking and more. Residents who may not use the indoor facility may have an interest in its location and we encourage everyone to share their feedback.”
Diagrams of the three options along with other project information and a feedback form are now available at letstalk.delta.ca/winskill. Interested residents will also find a list of all of the opportunities to get involved.
There are also several consultation sessions planned for area residents, aquatic user groups, field user groups, underrepresented groups, as well as the community-at-large.
A pair of neighbourhood info sessions will be held at the Winskill Park Fieldhouse (Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club) from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 30 and June 4. The sessions, which are intended for nearby residents (registration is required) will feature a presentation by city staff and a chance for residents to ask questions.
The city will also host a pair of community open houses where residents can drop in to learn more and provide feedback. The first, from 10 a.m.m to 2 p.m. on June 1, will take place outdoors at Winskill Park. The second will be in the main hall at South Delta Recreation Centre from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 6.
