Earl Marriott Secondary is celebrating the success of one of their students who has been awarded silver for her prize poem.

The National Student Poetry Contest by Polar Expressions Publishing has named Lucy Prior from South Surrey as the second prize winner for students in Grade 10 across Canada.

For her win, Prior has received $60 and a certificate for her poetry entry, Beautiful Beast along with a book featuring her original poem included in it. Her school, Earl Mariott Secondary, has also received the matching prize, a press release states.

Each year, teachers are able to submit poems from their students to the national student competition, with more than a thousand received from across Canada annually.
