The Surrey RCMP says a 29-year-old man who was last seen on May 14, 2021, has been found dead.

Police identified the individual as Bernard Grempel.

Surrey Mounties stated in a news release Thursday (Feb. 29) that Grempel’s death does not appear suspicious but that the BC Corners Service is investigating.

Grempel was last seen at 22nd Street SkyTrain Station in New Westminster on May 14, 2021, according to a May 2022 release from Surrey RCMP.

Munn stated in that release that leading up to Grempel’s disappearance, “investigators have confirmed that Bernard entered the Surrey Central SkyTrain Station at 10:31 p.m., took the SkyTrain and arrived at the 22nd Street station.” at 10:53 p.m.

She added that investigators believe Grempel boarded the 340 bust at 10:59, which travels to Scottsdale Exchange in Surrey.

Grempel’s family created a GoFundMe several weeks after his disappearance. At the time of launching the GoFundMe, Grempel’s sister Ettie Shurack said that in addition to police efforts, they hired a private investigator to help expand the search.

The Surrey RCMP will not be releasing any further information surrounding Grempel’s death, stated Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha.
